Quinteto Skaros

Description

Quinteto Skaros is a wind quintet that originated in San Sebastian – Donostia within the framework of our degree studies at MUSIKENE – Higher School of Music of the Basque Country. Coming from different parts of the Iberian Peninsula, the members of Skaros are characterised by an excellent as well as diverse individual artistic careers. Likewise, their professional and educational activity is currently developed in 5 different European countries: Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria and Germany.

From orchestral music to social projects and music therapy; from historically informed baroque performance to free improvisation and contemporary music… Our individually differentiated profiles as well as the variety of knowledge and influences, converge now in this chamber music project.

In any case, it is the artistic restlessness that brought the project into being and continues to drive its activity today. Our aim? To offer music of the highest quality, to bring classical music closer to the average listener and to thrill together in the enjoyment of music for wind quintet.

Breaking boundaries: from Haydn to Piazzolla

The chamber music activity of Quinteto Skaros began in 2018 at MUSIKENE – Higher School of Music of the Basque Country. There, from the very beginning, Skaros was mentored by Sergio Barranco, a clarinettist who broadened our horizons about what it means to play in a wind quintet both technically, musically and scenographically. He also knew how to transmit to us the appreciation and affection for the repertoire of the wind quintet, not only for its quality and variety but also for its relevance and similarity to the woodwind section of the orchestra.

During that year together, we participated in our first chamber music cycle: Pasaia Chamber Music Week 2019 (Pasaia-Trintxerpe, Guipúzcoa) as well as in our first competition: Musikene Internal Chamber Music Competition, in which we were selected for subsequent performances.

This allowed us to take part in the Young Performers Cycle of Juan March Foundation (Madrid), giving two concerts, one of which was broadcasted live.

Other stages and contexts in which we have participated are concerts in collaboration with the Escuela de Música Julián Romano and Casa de la Cultura Fray Diego (Estella-Lizarra, Navarre).
